Binion's Hotel to cease operations on December 14th

Representatives of Binion's Gambling Hall & Hotel have recently informed the downtown Las Vegas property will close all its 365 hotel rooms due the economic downturn and a decrease in room rates and  occupancy affecting most Las Vegas hotels.

TLC Casino Enterprises spokeswoman Lisa Robinson, a  TLC Casino Enterprises spokeswoman told Associated Press this Monday that Binion's Original Coffee Shop will also shut down, and all keno operations will cease, while the casino, poker room, sports book and Binion's Ranch Steakhouse will remain open to the public. According to Robinson, about 100 of Binion's 800 workers will be laid off when Binion's hotel and former Mint tower closes its doors on December 14th.

The famous Las Vegas hotel opened in 1951 as Horshoe Hotel after Benny Binion bought and rebranded the Apache and El Dorado Hotels. The property, which began hosting the World Series of Poker in 1970,  was sold to Harrah's in 2004 when the company acquired the WSOP. That same year, Harrah's sold the Horseshoe to MTR Gaming Group and retained the rights to the Horseshoe brand and the World Series of Poker. The property was finally sold in 2008 to TLC Corporation and relaunched as Binion's Gambling Hall and Hotel.
