Bally's sportsbook to remain closed until fall
As it was announced in an official statement released a few days ago by Harrah’s Entertainment, the company's sportsbook located inside Bally's Hotel and Casino will remain closed until September, 2009. Even when the company did not revealed the reasons for the temporary closing, several news agencies commented that the decline in gambling revenue reported by most Las Vegas casinos could be forcing the company to close the sportsbook in order to reduce its expenses.
Deanna Pettit, a spokeswoman for
Bally's, confirmed the 285-seat sports book's closure, saying the measure is temporary and that Bally's management is anticipating a tentative re-opening date in Fall 2009. According to Harrah's, only 10 employees will be affected by the sportsbook closure.
In addition, Harrah's confirmed that no remodeling works are planned for the sports book, and that it will occupy the same area once it reopens in fall, 2009. In the meantime, the sports book at Paris Las Vegas, which accessible from the Bally’s, will be taking the extra customers until the property opens its doors. Harrah's Entertainment's will continue offering full-service at all its sportsbooks in Las Vegas, including Paris Las Vegas, Caesars Palace, Flamingo Las Vegas, Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino, Harrah's Las Vegas, Imperial Palace and Bill's Gamblin' Hall & Saloon.
