22 year old online player wins inaugural NAPT Venetian Main Event

Online poker pro, Tom 'kingsofcards' Marchese has won the Main Event at the first , taking home the $827,648 prize along with the first PokerStars.net North American Poker Tour championship trophy. The 22-year-old player from New Jersey outlasted a 872-player field, claiming the inaugural $5,000 buy-in PokerStars.net NAPT Venetian Main Event championship in Las Vegas.
"It's a bit overwhelming,. The event is definitely one of my new favorites. The turnout was great, the structure was really good and the tournament staff did a really good job all week. I'll definitely be back next year," said Marchese in a post game interview.
The event was 18 players away from reaching its 890-player cap, creating a $4 million prize pool and paying the top 128 finishers. Several PokerStars Pros cashed out in this event, including Vanessa Rousso who finished 25th ($18,080), Friend of PokerStars.net Bill Chen who came 81st ($10,446) and former world champions Tom McEvoy and Greg Raymer who finished 101st and 102nd respectively.
A total of 35 countries were represented in the five-day tournament, however, the final table was dominated by American players. Marchese started the final table in 4th place in the chip count with 2,370,000 chips. The chip leader was the second place finisher Sam Stein who had 6,145,000 chips. The first elimination of the evening was Eric Blair, who took $60,266 for his eighth place finish. The seventh place was for by 66-year-old professional poker player 'Miami' John Cernuto, who now boasts over $4.8 million in tournament earnings, spanning his 30-year poker-playing career.
Soon after, Thomas Fuller picked up $144,639 for a 6th place finish, followed by David Paredes in 5th ($184,816). Two hours later, Yunus Jamal was eliminated in 4th place by Marchese, who also sent Daniel Clemente to the rail in third place ($309,366).
The last hand of the tournament came when Stein called Marchese's all-in bet holding just J-5 on a 6-K-5-4-10 board. Marchese called with K-9, for top pair. Stein scooped over $500.000 for his runner up performance.
