21 year old Yevgeniy Timoshenko Wins World Poker Tour World Championship

21 year old online poker player, Yevgeniy Timoshenko has become the latest WPT Champ after winning the 2009 Five-Star World Poker Classic WPT Championship held at the Bellagio in Las Vegas from April 18th to 25th. The tournament registered a total of 338 entries for a $8,172,250 prizepool and gathered some of the best professional poker players from all over the world, including Bruno Fitoussi, Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier, Jennifer Harman, Ross Boatman, Jeff Madsen, Eugene Katchalov, Justin Young, Chris Ferguson, Ross Boatman, Liv Boree, Mark Seif, Boris Becker, David Singer, David Benyamine, Sam Farha, Quinn Do and Mike Matusow among others.
The final table kicked off on April 25th with Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier on Seat 1 with 5,955,000, Scotty Nguyen on Seat 2 with 3,275,000, Shannon Shorr in Seat 3 (1,130,000), Yevgeniy "Jovial Gent" Timoshenko on Seat 4 (3,300,000), Christian "charder30" Harder on Seat 5 (7,425,000) and Ran Azor on Seat 6th with 2,525,000. First elimination came when Scotty Nguyen moved all in holding A-4 with A-K-2-A-7 on the board and was called by Christian Harder, who showed A-9 for a higher kicker. Second in the list of eliminations was Shannon Shorr, who took home $408,550 for his fifth place finish after losing a hand against Timoshenko.
Then both Bertrand Grospellier and Christian Harder moved all in and were called by Ran Azor. Grospellier showed A -J, Harder A- 8 and Azor showed A -7. The board came K -7-3-Q-2 and Azor's pair of sevens were enough to eliminate Harder and Grospellier.
In the final hand of the event, Ran Azor raised to 800,000 with Q-10. Timoshenko responded by moving all in with A-3 and Azor called. The flop was Q-J-7, giving Azor a pair of queens. Hover, a K and a 10 sealed Timoshenko's victory after completing a straight and taking down the tournament. Azor collected $1,446,265 for the second place finish.
