Following the success of its 2009 event, the PartyPoker.net World Pool Masters will be returning to the Riviera Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas for the largest and most prestigious invitational event in the world.
Promoted by Matchroom Sport, a world leader in televised pool, the PartyPoker.net World Pool Masters will be held and from Wednesday, May 12th to Sunday, May 16th, and will feature 64 of finest players from around the world competing for $100.000 in prizes, with $20,000 going to the eventual champ.
The players field is comprised by 32 international stars and 32 qualifiers from all over the world. The first 2010 World Pool Masters qualifier will be held in Paris on Sunday, February 14th . Other events are also scheduled to take place in Australia, Japan, USA, Canada and most of the major European countries.
The first two days of the event feature double elimination play on a multi-table set-up as the field reduces from 64 down to 32. The event then goes to single elimination and the last 16 is played out in a single table arena culminating in the final on the evening of Sunday, May 16th. The elimination and final rounds will be recorded and distributed in 14 countries around the world for TV broadcast.
"I'm very excited about the future of the Masters. It did very well and was very prestigious as a 16 player invitational but now is the time to take the event to another level and then beyond. We've increased the field to 64 with the aim of having qualifying tournaments all over the world and that is the model the Masters will follow now and in years to come. It gives every aspirational pool player in the world the chance to play in Las Vegas in one of the game's biggest competitions and compete against the superstars of pool." said Matchroom Sport Chairman Barry Hearn.
