2010 NAPT Mohegan Sun main Event kicks off with big field
- 4-8-2010
The first annual NAPT Mohegan Sun Main Event is officially underway. The $5000 buy in Main Event brought a total of 716 players and forced Mohegan Sun’s officials to open the casino's 15-table poker room, in addition to the Convention Center room, which currently houses 60 tournament tables.  The event set new records for the Mohegan Sun for both attendance and prizepool. The top 104 places will share the $3.2 million prizepool with the winner taking home $750,000.
Joining the field are PokerStars pros Daniel Negreanu, Jason Mercier, Vanessa Rousso, Barry Greenstein, Victor Ramdin, Chad Brown, Dennis Phillips, and 2009 World Series of Poker Main Event champ Joe Cada, as well as Full Tilt Poker pros Phil Ivey, Tom “Durrrr†Dwan and Gavin Smith, James Akenhead, Brandon Cantu, Hoyt Corkins, Maria Ho, Chau Giang, Cliff Josephy, J.C. Tran, Bernard Lee, Sorel Mizzi, Kathy Liebert, and Paul Wasicka . Day 1 closed with 443 players advancing to Day 2. Bodog's sponsored pro David Williams leading the chip count with 230,900 in chips.
The NAPT Mohegan Sun tournament is the third stop on the 2010 PokerStars.net North American Poker Tour schedule. The 2010 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) marked the first ever stop on the NAPT. More than 1,500 players registered for the $10,000 Main Event, creating a prize pool of nearly $15 million. Last month's $5,000 NAPT Venetian Las Vegas Main Event attracted 872 players for a prize pool of $4,017,740.
The Main Event Final Table will be played on Sunday, April 11th. NAPT Mohegan Sun will also feature a $25,000 High Roller Bounty Shootout on April 12-13. Both the Main Event and the High Roller Bounty Shootout will be filmed for broadcast on ESPN2.
