2008 WSOP Event #11: Phillip Tom wins his first WSOP event and $477,990

The 2008 World Series of Poker Event #11 kicked off on June
6th at the Amazon Poker Room in
The first elimination came when Thomas Roupe moved all in with 10c-7c vs. Leo Wolpert Ah-Kh. The board came 9-4-2-5-9 and Roupe had no option but walking out with the 6th place and $38,070. Two other eliminations came before the dinner break when Tim West was busted with pocket nines vs. Leo Wolpert pair of Kings. West took the 5th position and $63,450. Right after West was sent to the rail, Sirous Jamshidi and Phillip Tom both moved all in holding high pairs. Jamshidi revealed J-J and Tom opened a pair of Aces. The board came K-10-5-2-7 and Jamshidi was eliminated in 4th place, taking home $118,440.
Only three players came back from the dinner break and didn’t
take long before Leo Wolpert moved all in with K-3 and Greg Mueller called him with
K-2. The hand was almost decided until Muller got another 2 on the river, eliminating
Wolpert in third place with $187,812. The Heads Up started with Tom Phillip
cleaning his path to victory since the first hands, crippling Mueller and
leaving him in a uncomfortable position. On the last hand the flop came J-9-3
and both players checked. The turn was a 5 and Phillip Tom raised 150.000, the
Muller re raised to 350.000 and Tom re raised again, pushing Muller to all in. Muller
called and both players revealed their cards, Muller showed J-8 and Tom A-J.
The river was a K and Muller was eliminated in 2nd place while Phil Tom received
his first WSOP bracelet plus the top prize of $477,990 and the ovation from the
audience at the Rio All Suite Hotel and Casino.
