The 2008 Euro has been an exceptional
tournament for all soccer fans, I have specially enjoyed the cup, but I honestly
have to admit that I never thought that Spain could make it this far. I was
expecting Portugal, France, The Netherlands or maybe the Czech Republic
to play the finals, I mean, the Spanish Professional Soccer league is positioned
among the top three best soccer leagues in the world beside the Premier League
and the Calccio (Italian League). However, the Spanish team has a long history
of failures and disappointments, including its previous participations in the
last Euro and in the World Cup. No matter how many stars the call to play in their
National Team, Spain
has always cracked vs. more traditional Teams. And talking about traditional
teams, Germany’s qualification is not a surprise, after all the Teutonic team
is one of the most “traditional†finalist in European competitions, and so far
the team proved to have what is takes to be the Champ.
But let’s talk about the
probable results and the odds. Most online sportsbetting sites have both teams
even with Spain at -160 and Germany
+125. Germany is also listed at +205 to win the game, Spain shows +125 and the Draw
is listed at +225 with a total of 2 goals (o-160/u+120). Now, f we trust the soccer
history and statistics then we would have to pick Germany. But since anything can
happen in the Euro (Remember, Greece won the last edition vs. Portugal), however, Germany
has defeated two of the most offensive and defensive teams in Europe: Portugal and Turkey. That puts in evidence the
German team strength and efficiency, two key ingredients needed to success. But
what about Spain?
Well, I think Spain has more potential than Germany, Spain’s coach and main strategist
Jose Luis Aragones has relied in the team speed and middle field recovery to
create a winning formula, however, the Spanish team qualified to the finals
defeating Italy in the penalty shoots thanks to the skills of its goalkeeper
Iker Casillas. ÂÂ
I think that if Spain defines a way to neutralize Germany’s physical
superiority then they will have more chances. Now, the question is, can Spain survive
90 minutes defending its area? It seems that most online sportsbooks and odd
makers believe they can, what I’m not really sure about is if they took the decision
based on the fact that Spain has “better†players and that they should win only
because of that. No matter who wins, the final match will be a hell of a game,
If I had to pick a team right now I would probably get Germany only because of
the odds, more experience gamblers and sports betting experts won’t probably
agree with my pick, however, I’m not sure if Spain can get rid of its “curseâ€Â. I’m
not been superstitious, after all there is more pressure on Spain and that is
an extra weight the team will have to carry on during the 90 minutes of the
game.
